The Leeds leadership team is looking to hire a capable and enthusiastic Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer. This role is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in electrical building services design who is ready to take on greater responsibility in project delivery
Our Client is a specialist building services consultancy known for delivering high-quality, practical, and energy-efficient engineering solutions across a range of commercial, retail, residential, leisure and industrial projects. Their reputation is built on technical excellence, a personalised service with Director level involved on all projects, and collaborative working within a client facing setting.
As the business looks to resource further long term contract and framework wins, the company is now seeking to hire a talented Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer at either Intermediate or Senior/Principal level.
Role Overview
The Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, specification, and coordination of mechanical systems including HVAC, public health, heating, cooling, and ventilation solutions. The role involves delivering projects from concept design through to detailed design and construction support, ensuring compliance with standards, sustainability requirements, and client objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce mechanical building services designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for a variety of project types.
- Undertake heat loss/gain calculations, ventilation sizing, ductwork and pipework design, and equipment selection.
- Prepare technical reports, schedules, and design documentation.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines, both internal and external.
- Carry out site surveys, inspections, and assess existing building services installations.
- Attend client, design team, and contractor meetings as required.
- Ensure all work complies with current regulations, industry standards, and best practices (CIBSE, Building Regulations, BREEAM, etc.).
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge development.
- Support project delivery from concept through construction, including responding to contractor queries and reviewing technical submissions.
- Contribute to sustainable and low-carbon design solutions and evaluate renewable technologies where appropriate.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy or contracting environment.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, public health systems, and general mechanical building services principles.
- Proficiency in industry software such as AutoCAD, Revit and IES.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and industry guidance (CIBSE, BS Standards, Building Regulations).
- Ability to produce clear design calculations and well-structured reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working on low-energy or net-zero carbon design projects.
- Chartered or working toward Chartered Engineer status (CEng).
- Experience with BIM workflows or other collaborative design platforms.
- Familiarity with project management and client liaison.
