Our Client is a leading mechanical and electrical services engineering consultancy passionate about creating sustainable, efficient and innovative building services solutions. The MEP design teams work collaboratively with clients and across disciplines to shape high-quality built environments that deliver technical excellence and support carbon reduction objectives.

The Leeds office has long since been a flagship northern office, working both independently on Yorkshire based projects and in collaboration with other offices to help deliver major complex schemes across other parts of the UK. Future planning resource alongside supporting and mentoring the next generation of talented Engineers is a constant goal of the business, supporting aspiring building services professionals who will one day be leading projects themselves.

The Leeds office is looking to appoint a Junior Mechanical Engineer who will support the HVAC engineering team in the design, development and delivery of building services projects. The appointed candidate will contribute to the creation of mechanical systems designs (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and assist Senior Engineers across project stages from concept through to handover, learning and developing core skills within a professional consultancy environment.

This role is ideal for a recent engineering graduates, early-career professional, or someone with limited industry experience looking to establish a long-term career in mechanical building services engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the mechanical design of building services, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing systems.
  • Prepare and develop drawings, schematics, calculations, and technical documentation under supervision.
  • Support Senior Engineers with design development and coordination across disciplines.
  • Contribute to mechanical performance specifications and equipment schedules.
  • Assist with design checks, QA processes, and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Participate in project meetings, liaising with the team and clients as required.
  • Learn inhouse design systems and tools, including CAD and BIM workflows.
  • Engage in CPD and training activities to build technical knowledge and competencies.
  • Support sustainability and low-carbon design objectives in mechanical engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent); or HNC/HND with relevant experience.
  • A desire to work towards professional membership (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE).

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of mechanical building services principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, IES or similar) is desirable.
  • Awareness of British Standards, Building Regulations and sustainability frameworks (e.g., BREEAM or low-carbon design principles) is beneficial.

Core Competencies

  • Strong willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Good communication skills — both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
